In the heart of New York City, a bold and daring red-tailed hawk has taken up residence. Affectionately known to New Yorkers as Pale Male, the hawk lives and hunts amidst the sky scrapers of Manhattan, attracting the attention of curious onlookers and inspiring devoted fan [1]. With his original mate, First Love, Pale Male used to mate all over the 5th Avenue but, as you will see in the next video, they specially prefered Woody Allen's balcony:
First Love later ate a pigeon that she found dead in the park and died of food poisoning. He is known to have mated another three mates. His current mate is known as Lola, and they raised 7 chicks between 2002 and 2004.
On July 13, 2007, Pale Male was attacked by a stone-tossing construction worker; "Antonio Torrado" was reported fired from the construction company doing work at the site. Apparently, no real harm was done to Pale Male, although the true perpetrator remained at large.
The Central Park Christmas Bird Count held December 17, 2006, determined that there were probably ten red-tailed hawks in the park that day.
